A Short History of Edge of the Woods Edge was founded in 1978, about six blocks from the current store, on Edgewood Avenue (hence the name Edge of the Woods). It was run by a group of idealists who were practicing a yogic discipline. The original idea in forming the store was to provide vegetarian food in a friendly, warm setting.
In 1988, the board approached Peter Dodge and the store was sold to him. It was also at this time that the old Whalley Theater building became available and a year later in 1989, Peter renovated the building and moved Edge of the Woods to its current location on Whalley Avenue.
